Tips for Boudoir Photography

According to the tons of different articles on the Web, the real age of the boudoir portrait has arrived. While the article questions whether the trend is a bit of filth or a wonderful celebration of the human body, I want to offer that it’s not the trend that has potential to flounder – boudoir photographs are by nature a beautiful erotic, vintage art form. It’s our outlook on the set that counts. Boudoir photography can make an amazing anniversary present, wedding gift, and what I like to call a “let’s have better sex” gesture, so it’s important that you’re happy with the result.
Nude modeling sessions include a range of images for you, from simple portraits, some boudoir style, to art nudes and even boldly sexual images for the erotic nude shoots.  Quite a few of the images will still retain the mystery and leave a lot to the imagination, but the wonderful beauty of the intimate details will be shared too, empowered by your sexual liberation and all the pleasures to the mind and body that allows for you. While there will likely be a considerable thrill to you from expressing your sexuality so openly, it’s all part of obtaining amazing, authentic, and yes, even exciting images of yourself that you can be proud to share with someone close to you, or even to just save for yourself to remember how you were in your prime of life.

  1. You want to look fresh when you arrive to the shoot. Sleep well. Go to sleep early.
  2. Wash your hair the night before. You can hair dry it but don’t style it. Never get to a shoot with products in your hair.
  3. Moisture your lips and use body lotion before you go to bed. Dry skin looks awful on the pictures.
  4. Don’t shave before the shoot if there is a bathroom at the studio, have some pictures with the hair and then shave and then do some more, because you can always shave off but can’t grow hair during the shoot.
  5. If it’s a hot day and you’re gonna shoot outside – bring sunscreen. As a model you should never have lines on your body. So be careful in the sun.
  6. Get Undressed Quickly- It may be the oddest suggestion, but it works for two reasons. “When you arrive to your shoot we will strongly encourage you to get undressed and in a robe immediately. It will give your skin a chance to lose the indentations caused by all clothing. It also gives you a chance to get used to the feeling of being nude. The comfort comes across clearly in photographs,”
  7. What to wear when you’re going for the shoot..
  8. Wear a button up shirt so you don’t mess up your hair taking it off when you arrive and get into wardrobe. Wear sweatpants and loose sneakers.  You’ll look like hell when you arrive but you won’t have any marks on your skin during the shoot – and isn’t that what’s important???
  9. Don’t eat very much for 2-3 hours before the shoot, you may get bloated. Sip water and eat light.
  10. Make sure you are relaxed. I recommend doing yoga or meditation on the day of the shoot to get rid of jitters.  If you practice this routinely it can be extremely effective.
  11. Pack all of your wardrobe (with shoes, accessories, and props) and your model kit and arrive on time. It’s so important to be punctual, especially for outdoor shoots.  Make this a priority
  12. Having FUN is the most important element of the shoot, don’t miss out on it.
  13. bring some accessories (acessorize it..!) for the kind of the nude shoot, if its a raunchy shoot to surprise your partner or for yourself, then don’t forget to take some toys with you, you can buy heaps of stuff on ebay, like a hunter, leather pants, some sexy lingerie.
  14. I’ve written a detailed cheat sheet on how to prepare and what to take on a photoshoot.
